Jaguar S Type 4.0

"This is a 2000 year model car that I purchased off lease when it was three years old and had 40,000 miles on it. This car has every available option and had a sticker price of just over $65,000 new."

"I paid $22,500 as the second owner, drove it for five years and will sell it for $10,000 (compare my cost of ownership to the original purchaser)."

A car is not just a motor vehicle with four wheels. For some, it represents the most important thing in the world, a priceless possession! Others have made a passion out of collecting diverse cars, some valuable and some even more valuable. Car collecting is one of the most expensive hobbies out there, requiring not only many expenses to be made but also a lot of free time dedicated to the maintenance and restoration of the purchased cars.

If you have the necessary resources to start car collecting, take a moment and decide if you also have the time to invest in what can only be perceived as a highly fulfilling hobby. You might be ready for the financial investments but if you don’t find the time to take care of your cars, then you cannot talk about having a hobby. Even though hobbies are usually pursued for mere enjoyment, you still have to put in a lot of effort especially if you want to derive a profit from car collecting.

Once you decide to become a car collector, look for potential sellers and see what they have got to offer. You can very well go on the Internet and search the web for vintage cars, getting in contact with sellers worldwide. True, there are certain risks that you will take by discussing with such sellers but once you are certain that the car is valuable, you will discover that it was all worth it. Collectors all like to trade cars between them, so make sure that you become familiar with places where such trades actually happen.

Besides going to the Internet, it is a known fact that car exhibits and newspaper ads represent two very important sources for those interested in purchasing cars of any kind. Once you find something that you think might be interesting, be sure to check it out in complete detail. If you are lucky, you might find a car that is extremely valuable and that needs very little restoration. Be prepared to pay the price asked for, but only after you verify the car with an attested expert.

What does it take for a car to be called in perfect condition? Well, you should know that to find vintage cars in perfect condition is an exception. Depending on the year when they produced and the number of owners, the condition of the car might vary from unbelievable (good) to useless. Don’t throw your money away for nothing; think of the long-term investments that you will have to make and try to make a sort of balance between the actual price and the later costs. Only then can you determine if that car actually deserves the amount of money you were going to pay for it.

All this information presented above is essential if you want to be truly successful as a car collector. You will also need to find out what exactly are the restoration expenses for the car in question. At the same time, consider the necessary amount that you will need for its regular maintenance. If you are not so good with engines, braking systems and other similar things, take someone who knows about them. Together, take a look and decide how many repairs or changes the car needs. The more repairs, the price should be lowered. But that is not always the case and that is why you should not pay a high price for a car that can’t even be started.

Car collecting is all about having an eye for detail. Each car that you add to your collection must be carefully inspected, including when it comes to its bodywork, engine compartment and even hood. If all these are ok, then you should proceed further and search for corrosion signs. Don’t feel ashamed for looking for flaws, as there many sellers out there who might try to cheat you; search and inquire as much as you like, if possible with an expert after you. Only someone who has been doing this for a while will be able to give you a rough estimate of the car’s actual value. And if you are a car collector for some time, then you probably know this already.

It’s one thing to purchase a car that needs to be repaired and another to buy worn or broken down cars. They might need a complete rebuilt and that is worth trying only if that car is extremely rare and valuable. You also have to consider where are going to find spare parts and other accessories. A tip: try specialized websites and auction sites. Who knows what you might find? At the opposite, you should know that sometimes you might find a truly valuable piece for any car collector and be able to buy it at a truly great price.

A genuine car collector will never perceive a car as a necessity; on the contrary, he/she will be really interested to bring that specific car in perfect condition and arrange it beautifully along with other cars in the garage. Antique cars are some of the most preferred, given the rich history they have and also because of their highly-prized value. Going from a hobby to an investment is quite an easy thing to accomplish, that being even more valid for car collectors out there. They collect antique cars, restoring them when needed and then they sell certain items for an above price.

And in fact, what does it mean an antique car? Well, once interested in collecting such items, you should know that any car older than 25 years is considered antique. Anyone who owns such cars is considered to be a great collector and there are several models out there which were sold for immense sums of money. Once you buy such a car, it is impossible not to find a little bit about its history and the period it came from. It’s so incredibly rewarding, both from an emotional but also monetary standpoint of view. This is why it is for the best to be certain that the car is antique and that the seller is not trying to trick you.

You can always use the Internet to find out more on the subject of car collecting, including how to recognize an antique car and where you might find spare parts. It’s a good idea to gather as much information as you can on the subject, as knowledge is a very important weapon for an authentic car collector. There are many hobbies out there, helping people to fill their free time and do something truly special. Car collecting is unique, requiring a lot of time, effort and money to be invested but on the long run is something definitely worth trying! The collector is pleased only after all the collection is in perfect condition, the cars sitting quietly in the garage, just waiting to be taken out for a ride. It’s just something so wonderful about having a hobby that satisfied you, especially if you are determined to transform it into a full-time occupation.
